  Amazing,

  I think you might be grasping a little here. From my examination of the website, it seems that the DONORS decide where THEIR money goes. So what you have are a few rich JW's (who might even use Fidelity Group as their finacnial consultant/ brokerage) deciing to give $$$ to the WT through this. Instead of giving the money directly to Brooklyn, they would rather give 2 cents on the dollar to Fidelity.

  But for that 2%, Fidelity sets up the gift so the donor scams a tax break from the governemnt that in some cases is even larger than the gift itself. They MAKE a profit on a gift. Yes, it stinks but it is perfectly legal.

  WT gets theirs and rich dub gets theirs.

  I could be wrong. But from what I saw that is all there is to this.

  Mmm...college

  thanks to the supportive words and encouragement of many here, i am now officially a student at arizona state university.. i just went to campus, and got a hard copy of the general catalog at the book store, and i went to the computer lab to setup my access.

  just seeing the young and old, people of all sorts of ethnic backgrounds, milling around campus, all engaged in the wonder of learning, made me take pause and think about how silly the jw prohibition on college is, and how completely a learning environment can shatter the witness world view.

  part of me wanted to cry, and another part of me was intrigued by the hot young college chicks...heh.. it is wonderful to be able to make choices for oneself.. any recommendations for my first course?

  congrats! The most important thing that college teaches you is HOW to think. Given what you said about your interests, I recommend psychology. Of all the college classes I have taken (including grad school), the two classes I learned the most in were "Human Perception" and "Intro Psych." The unit on High Control groups hit close to home.

  As what to avoid, I agree with Woody Allen: "Stay away from any class with Beowolf in the title."

  those in other countries who went to jail or paid fines for not voting....

  ...well, now it seems their sacrifice was for NOTHING and this new light could have saved them much grief. oh well. As Jehovah would say "Tough shit...get going and sell those books!"

  I remember there was a big scandal because it was discovered after the projet was complete that one of the brothers in charge of the project (Bro. Oswald) was romping around with his mistress in his truck at the building site.

  It also houses the graphic arts headquarters of the organization's Bible-education materials.

  Through my sources, I heard some rumors about moving some stuff up to the Lansing, NY complex (about 5 years ago). Something to do with departments for architecture, drafting, or graphic arts stuff. then it all died down. Anyone else ever hear of this?

  Curious what your thoughts on Sheldrake's "morphic field" theory
  are. personally, I think it is a fallacy. There are lots of "dragons" on the genomic map -- unknown regions. We don't know if NO mechanism to transmit experiences of a parent to child exist.
  Maybe Lamarck's ideas should not totally be discredited. Even if the child animal is raised apart from it's parent's, it still has the parent's genetic material.

  Like the fallacy that humans only use 10% of our brains (used to
  support crap like ESP). If that is the case, which 90% of your brain
  would you care to part with? The fallicy DOES have a grain of truth
  -- only 10% of the brain is active at any ONE time. But, over a
  reasonable period of time 100% of the brain is active. In my opinion, Sheldrake's experiments are finding the grains of truth to support a fallacy.

  Maybe I'm closed minded on the subject. Thomas Huxley once said "It is the customary fate of new truths to begin as heresies."

  honestly, I hope I am.
